APPS EUROPE & MIDDLE EAST UPDATE - FLOOD RELIEF WORK ON GROUND:
First of all, we would like to thank you all for your kind donations which has helped us in sending emergency food supplies and other essential items like clothes, toiletries etc to front lines. It is so reassuring to see our own teams distributing them to the victims directly. Please see some pictures / videos attached.
We have developed strong collaborations on the ground with Al-Khidmat, 414 Group, Sakinah, Madat Balochistan, IDSP, Muslim hands and FC Balochistan.
Our Chief Director of Welfare Projects, Dr Sadia Malick, Associate Professor & Consultant Gynaecologist has personally led these relief efforts and visited remote areas to meet flood victims. The information she has shared with us about the ground realities is truly heart wrenching.
One particular area that she is focused on is the health of heavily pregnant ladies that are now displaced due to floods. Some of them have their due date coming up within weeks.
We started our Clean Birth Kits Project in Balochistan last year to reduce maternal and newborn mortality. This has now been extended to KPK.
Dr Sadia has provided face to face training to mothers and midwives in flood relief camps about safe pregnancy and the use of these Clean Birth Kits.
She is also at the forefront of raising funds and producing educational videos about the mother and child's health.
She has also visited local hospitals in flood effected areas and donated our kits as hospital stocks are replenishing fast due to disrupted supply chains.
She has also attended high level meetings with state officials for resource planning and creating local data bases. There have been discussions about setting up field hospitals and emergency air rescue in real life-threatening situations.
She also appeared on National TV in Pakistan to highlight the plight of these stranded pregnant women.
Working at international level she has contacted with Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and British Medical Association (BMA) urging them to provide support to help save these women and their newborn babies.
A special thank you to Prof. Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman from Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan.
You can donate from anywhere in the world on the following link
Please keep your donations coming. Jazak'Allah khair
